Police said the call that prompted the lockdown was likely a hoax. The school’s trust expects it to reopen as normal on Monday 19 October.

Greater Manchester Police said officers attended the school and assessed the circumstances.

A force spokesperson said “Officers attended and carried out an assessment which indicated that the call was a likely hoax. Officers are investigating the circumstances of the call.”

Pupils were sent home following the incident.

One parent criticised communication during the incident, saying they received an initial message through Arbor at 9.22am and the next update at 11.07am, adding that more updates should have been provided while parents were worried.

St Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Academy Trust, which includes the school, confirmed parents and carers had been contacted about the evacuation and closure.

The trust said “The current expectation is that the school will be open as normal on Monday 19 October and further details will be shared when appropriate.”

Roch Valley Radio had approached the school office, headteacher and trust for comment. Calls to the school’s phone lines were met with a recorded message saying it was closed.
