Called ‘Summer Sessions’, the clubs are being run by Oasis community workers at two school sites - Oasis Academy Oldham and Oasis Academy MediaCityUK - and were organised just three weeks before the start of the school holidays.
“Not many summer holiday clubs are able to run this year,’ said Summer Sessions leader Hannah Miller.
"So we at Oasis felt we needed to organise something to make sure the most vulnerable children, especially those reliant on free school meals, get exercise, social interaction and a free healthy lunch.”
Activities on offer include a weekly film club and a chit chat gaming session where young people play games online on multi-platforms.
There are youth wellbeing sessions twice a week on Tuesdays where groups of up to 15 can join in fun activities, discussions and games.
All activities must be booked in advance at: https://bit.ly/3eytSh4 or by emailing: [email protected] or [email protected]
On Wednesdays there are family activities involving gardening, crazy craft, wonderful walks, silly sports ending with a family picnic.
At the same time, a volunteer team is also working to prepare, cook and deliver over 280 meals a week for Summer Sessions plus other vulnerable families across Oldham and Salford.
