Officers were called to Cornwall Street on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 2.50pm to reports a 21-year-old woman had been followed and then assaulted.
Fortunately, although understandably shaken up, the victim wasn't seriously injured and is being supported by specialist officers from Oldham CID.
Officers believe the attack was an isolated incident.
The new photo shows a male walking in the Chadderton area prior to the offence.
Detective Inspector Andrew Fink, of Oldham CID, said: "This was a really disturbing incident where the offender has targeted and followed the victim through the streets of Chadderton and then physically assaulted her.
"Fortunately, there have not been any reports of similar incidents in the area.
"We would ask anyone who recognises the man to contact us but if anyone sees him, please don't approach him but dial 999."
