David Stephenson (aged 50), of no fixed abode, has been charged with kidnap, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a person, driving with no insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

He will appear at Minshull Street Crown Court tomorrow (Friday).

The charge relates to an investigation by Tameside CID after police received reports of a stolen vehicle when a woman had left her vehicle and kept the engine running so it remained warm whilst her 89-year-old mother sat in the passenger seat in nearby Ashton.
