A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Officers from Middleton’s Neighbourhood Policing Team spotted a vehicle they considered suspicious parked on Cemetery Street while on patrol.

Greater Manchester Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of Class A drugs, scales and cash.

Following the arrest, further intelligence led officers to two addresses in Middleton and one in Chadderton, Oldham.

Police found a cannabis farm at each address and recovered 20 kilograms of suspected cocaine during the searches.

GMP estimated the suspected cocaine’s potential street value at around £2 million. The recovered substances are awaiting further assessment.

The arrested man remained in custody for questioning when police issued their update.

Inspector Graham Cooke, from GMP’s Heywood and Middleton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said officers were continuing to patrol hotspots following a separate day of action across Rochdale last week.

That operation resulted in seven arrests and the closure of cannabis farms, according to police.

Inspector Cooke said neighbourhood patrols were continuing while detectives gathered evidence relating to last week’s operation.

“I would urge anyone with any information about criminality in their area to get in touch with us - we will do what we can to assist,” he said.
