Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observers fast for its duration and the Iftar is a fast-breaking event.

The Oldham school rounded off the Spring term by holding an Iftar event for students, their families, and the local community.

The meal is a core event in the school’s calendar and all sections of the community were in attendance.

Huge numbers of non-observing staff and students had also fasted to support their friends and nearly 500 people came along to the Iftar event.

A group of older students even stayed behind after the party to help clear up!

TOAN is a very community-oriented school and the week after the Iftar they also hosted a coffee morning where they provided a free breakfast and allowed parents and carers to engage with their team, including Pastoral Staff, the School Nursing Team, the Community Engagement Team, and the Early Help Team - access to their school food bank was also available.

Jessica Giraud, Headteacher at E-ACT The Oldham Academy North, said: “It was brilliant to end the term on such a high with the amazing community Iftar event.

"At TOAN we believe in fostering a sense of togetherness and understanding and it was lovely to see so many people come together to break their fast also.”
