At around 5.30pm a girl was followed to B&M on Chadderton Way by an unknown man.
Police believe she entered the shop in an attempt to get away from him.
The girl then left the shop, but the man waited outside and continued to follow her a bit further before he approached her in an alleyway.
This is where it is believed a sexual assault took place.
The girl then ran away to a nearby house where a woman waited with her for police to arrive.
