Two years ago, they completed the same walk for this very same Oldham v Rochdale fixture, and together they raised an incredible £12,000 for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
The Yeds have already raised over £500, with all donations this time going towards supporting Oldham RLFC, the Ladies Team and the club’s pathway.
There will be several stops along the route, including The Railway, The Summit, The Bay Horse and The Flying Horse, before finishing at the Rochdale ground.
Places on the walk are completely FREE, and people can either complete the full route, join us for part of it or come along to support the walkers.
Jamie Hollingworth, Yeds Supporters Group said:
“As one of the organisers of the Stronger Together Walk, I’m incredibly proud of the support we’ve received.
“There’s actually a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to make something like this happen. One of the big things for me was going out and getting businesses involved to sponsor and support the event. We’ve been really fortunate to have the backing of JC Thread & Sole, The Thirst Responder, Orion Travel Coaches, GB Vehicle Leasing, iKNOW! and the Fox & Pine.
“Having local businesses and organisations willing to get behind what we’re doing means a lot. Their support helps us put the event together and, importantly, means we can concentrate on raising as much money as possible for the causes we’re supporting.
“For us, this is about much more than simply walking from Boundary Park to Spotland. It’s about bringing Oldham supporters together and showing what can be achieved when fans, businesses and the wider community all pull in the same direction.
“We’ve already raised over £500, which is fantastic, and every donation makes a genuine difference. The money raised will support Oldham RLFC, the club’s pathway and the ladies’ team, so it’s going directly towards helping rugby league in Oldham at different levels.
“We did this walk two years ago for the same fixture, when more than 200 supporters took part and we raised over £10,000 for the MND Association. The support that day was unbelievable, and seeing people come together again this year means a lot to us.
“We’re really looking forward to Sunday 30th August. Hopefully we can get a great group walking from Boundary Park to Spotland, raise as much as possible and then finish the day together supporting Oldham against Rochdale.
“The Yeds Supporters Group has always been about supporters coming together and trying to make a positive difference. The people taking part, those donating and the businesses sponsoring us are all playing their part. That’s exactly what ‘Stronger Together’ means to us.”
