The improvement is reflected in the number of students achieving strong passes in English and Mathematics. The proportion achieving Grade 4 or above has risen by 5.5%, while those achieving a strong Grade 5 or above has surged by 14% in just one year.

Importantly, the academy’s strong results are being achieved by students from across the school community. All students have performed incredibly well with the gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students narrowed to 0.58 of a grade per subject – significantly below the national disadvantage gap.

This is particularly significant given the academy’s commitment to ensuring that a student’s background does not determine their future. The results show that Failsworth is not only raising overall attainment, but making strong progress in ensuring all students benefit from that improvement.

Rebecca Shaw, Headteacher at Co-op Academy Failsworth said:

“We are incredibly proud of our students and the progress they have made. These results reflect the hard work of our young people, the dedication and commitment of our staff, and the support of our families. Our staff team have worked tirelessly to create a culture where every child is encouraged to believe in what they can achieve, and I’m particularly proud that we are seeing strong improvement across the school and narrowing the gap between different groups of students. staff, and families, as well as  our belief that every child in our community can achieve highly.”

The results at Failsworth are part of a wider story of sustained improvement across Co-op Academies Trust with Co-op Academy Belle Vue securing some of the top results in the country.

These schools demonstrate the Trust’s commitment to supporting schools to improve, raising expectations and ensuring that young people can thrive regardless of their starting point or circumstances.

Chris Tomlinson, CEO of Co-op Academies Trust said:

“These results are an incredible achievement for the young people at Failsworth, and they should feel immensely proud of what they have achieved. Behind every set of results is the hard work of students, a staff team and Headteachers and, importantly, families who support and encourage their children every step of the way. The staff team with strong leadership on a daily basis have worked very hard to ensure the students achieve well in their first step of their careers with ambitions now more realistic for the future. Every child deserves the opportunity to leave school with results that open doors to their next steps, whatever those steps may be, and these results show what can happen when a whole community believes in the potential of its young people.”
