Greater Manchester Police said it did not believe the incidents on Wednesday 26 August were linked.

Officers were called to reports of a large-scale disturbance on Doncaster Walk at 8.44pm.

A male victim suffered life-changing injuries and remains in hospital.

Police received a second report at 10.41pm after a 15-year-old boy was assaulted by a group of people near Oldham Mumps Metrolink Station.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.

No arrests had been made in connection with either incident when GMP issued its update and enquiries were continuing.

A Section 60 and Section 60AA authorisation was introduced in a defined area of Oldham at 10.45pm on Wednesday.

Section 60 gives officers additional powers to stop and search people within the specified area. Section 60AA allows police to require people to remove face coverings being used to disguise or conceal their appearance.

The powers were due to remain in place for 24 hours until 10.45pm on Thursday 27 August, subject to review and possible extension.

GMP said additional officers would also patrol the area over the following days.

Superintendent Roger Pegram said: “This order has been implemented to provide officers with extra powers to tackle these incidents, which will never be tolerated.

“These incidents have caused substantial alarm, distress and concern within the local community and it is right that our officers in the area have these powers to stop-search and ask people to remove face coverings. Ultimately, this is to deter and prevent any further criminality.

“You will see extra officers in the area and I would urge anyone with any information or issues to please get in touch with us.”

Police are appealing for information and CCTV, dashcam or Ring doorbell footage relating to either incident.

Anyone with information can contact Oldham CID on 0161 856 8906 or report it through the GMP website, quoting log 3341 of 26/08/26.
