Ri Ri's Dance Academy will perform The Magic Stick at the Indian Association in Oldham on Thursday 29 October as part of a 13-date northern tour.

The 45-minute production is designed for children aged six to 12 and their families and will be followed by a live question and answer session.

The story follows eight-year-old Diya, who is given a Magic Stick which allows her to see kindness come to life.

Guided by Mr Talking Tree, a Karam or Karma Tree, she travels through the Utsav Kindness Festival and meets different characters along the way.

The production combines Indian dance with theatre, music and stage magic.

It has been written by Dr Ria Meera Munshi, who previously co-wrote the family productions Sue & Sita and The Dancing Elephant.

Munshi was recently awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts by the University of Salford for her contribution to the arts and cultural sector.

Producer Rushi Munshi said: “The Magic Stick is our biggest theatre tour to date, and we're incredibly excited to share this story with families across the North. At its heart, this production is about showing children that kindness is powerful, magical and something we can all choose every single day.

“We hope audiences leave inspired, smiling and ready to spread a little more kindness in their own communities.”

The tour has received funding from Arts Council England and the National Lottery.

Ri Ri's Dance Academy also plans to run free creative workshops using recycled materials and offer subsidised tickets as part of the tour.

The Oldham performance will be followed by further dates at Horse & Bamboo in Rossendale on October 30, The Met in Bury on October 31, The Vale in Tameside on November 1, Touchstones in Rochdale on November 7 and the New Adelphi Theatre at the University of Salford on November 8.
