Mancunian actor Andrew Sheridan and Blackpool-born Erin Shanagher will play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in a new Oldham Coliseum Theatre production staged inside Liquid & Envy nightclub.

The 19-performance run will take place in Oldham town centre from Friday 23 October to Saturday 7 November.

The production will be directed by the Coliseum's Creative Director Nick Bagnall and will relocate Shakespeare's tragedy to a late-1970s setting influenced by Oldham's clubs, mills and streets.

Sheridan's screen credits include Control, Industry, Chernobyl, The Couple Next Door and Peaky Blinders. His theatre work includes A Taste of Honey at Manchester's Royal Exchange and People, Places and Things at the Royal Court.

His debut play Winterlong won the Bruntwood Prize.

Shanagher, who was born in Blackpool and is based in Manchester, plays DS Karen Hobson in ITV's The Bay. She has also appeared in Ridley, Number One Fan, Peaky Blinders, Viewpoint, The A Word and the film Censor.

Her theatre credits include the two-hander Beginning at the Royal Exchange Theatre.

Bagnall previously worked with Sheridan on the Henry VI trilogy at Shakespeare's Globe.

He said: "It is with great pride, joy and excitement that I welcome Andy and Erin, our Macbeths, to my first Oldham Coliseum Theatre show. After working with Andy in the Henry VI trilogy at Shakespeare's Globe, I cannot wait for our audiences to be dazzled by this extraordinary actor's ability to terrify and charm in equal measure. Andy is one of the most respected actors around, and I have been dying to work with him again.

"I have watched Erin from afar and vowed to get in a room with her to make work. I cannot think of a more perfect project for her. She will be quite an astonishing Lady Macbeth.

"Erin and Andy are two of the most agile, skilful and soulful actors I have seen, and to have them excavate the world of this play with me in Oldham feels like a dream come true."

The production will be staged inside a reimagined Liquid & Envy on Retiro Street.

It forms part of the Coliseum's programme across Oldham while restoration work continues at its historic Fairbottom Street home.

The two-week run will include a relaxed performance, an audio-described performance, a captioned performance and two performances interpreted in British Sign Language.

The first preview will be on Friday 23 October, with press night on Tuesday 27 October. The final performance will be on Saturday 7 November.

Tickets range from £15 for concessions to £28 for standard tickets, with further casting and production details due to be announced.
